From the Journal of Ethnopharmacology article "Medicinal smoke reduces the concentration of bacteria in the air":
"We found that smoking for one hour with medicinal smoke, which comes from burning wood with a mixture of spices and medicinal herbs (Havan Samagri - a substance that is widely used in religious and other rituals throughout India), kills over 94% of airborne bacteria. In a closed room, the cleanliness of the air environment was preserved for 24 hours. Pathogenic bacteria Corynebacterium urealyticum, Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens, Enterobacter aerogenes (Klebsiella mobilis), Kocuria rosea, Pseudomonas syringae pv. persicae, Staphylococcus lentus and Xanthomonas campestris pv. tardicrescens were absent outdoors even after 30 days. This indicates the high bactericidal potential of medicinal smoke. With the help of medicinal smoke in a closed space, it is possible to completely eliminate various pathogenic bacteria that float in the air and harm plants or people."
