Bead diameter 8mm

Please note that these Malas are made from naturally grown Turmeric and it is almost impossible to find perfectly even identical beads (without any flaw).

Material: Dried Turmeric root

Length: Bead diameter 8mm (approx)
Country of origin: India

Long and short strings of beads, tied in a ring with a long knot with brushes, in the benches near the temples are by no means an ornament.

WHAT IS MALA

Mala has been known since the 3rd century and is used both in Buddhism and Hinduism. Mala is used to count mantras, performed rituals and bows. Sorting through the beads, the reader of mantras immerses himself in the realization of the meaning, without being distracted by counting. He chanted the mantra and moved on to the next bead.

NUMBER OF BEADS
Classic mala consists of 108 beads, which is the product of the canonical numbers of Buddhism: 6x3x2x3. There are also shorter brushes made of 99, 54, 36, 27, 18 grains. The number of beads always refers to certain provisions of the Teaching.

MATERIAL FOR BEADS AND THREAD
Buddhist brushes are generally made of wood. Sandalwood or bodhi tree are most valued. Juniper brushes are credited with the ability to scare away evil spirits and eliminate harmful influences. Beads made of black coral are used for mystical practices, malas made of pearls and rock crystal bring comfort and eliminate diseases, made of amber - increase life expectancy. Beads are strung on a silk thread, and sometimes - human hair.

MAIN JEWELRY
Mala is often given as a birthday, wedding or holiday gift. Small bracelets are worn as a bracelet, long ones, made of 108 beads, sometimes as a necklace (mostly monks). K mala should be treated with care. If the damaged beads on the brushes cannot be repaired, then the small ones are taken to the temple and left as an offering. Mala serves as an integral attribute of some deities, in particular, Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Often he is depicted with a lotus and brushes in his hand, which expresses his desire to help believers overcome 108 passions and achieve enlightenment.

Do you want to practice using a mala? Start with the most famous six-syllable mantra of Tibetan Buddhism "Om mani padme hum" (O pearl shining in a lotus flower!)
