Isabgol is an Ayurvedic regulator of the work of the intestines and the digestive tract. An ultra-soft drug, it facilitates the activity of the intestinal tract, ensures a healthy stool. It is produced from natural, environmentally friendly raw materials obtained by processing the husks of Plantago ovata seeds. This species grows only in limited areas of India and the Middle East and has been used by the local population since time immemorial.
The pharmacological action of Isabgol is due to the high content of fiber polysaccharides, which have a pronounced hydrophilicity and form a gel. Passing through the gastrointestinal tract, the gel mass works like a molecular "sponge", normalizes and homogenizes the internal environment of the intestines, absorbs toxins and gases, actively reduces pain and bloating. Isabgol fiber is a source of soluble fibers. It does not break down, has no nutritional value, reduces fat absorption, slows down gastric emptying, thus contributes to the normalization of fat metabolism and weight loss. Thus, it reduces the risk of heart attacks.Use: adults take one teaspoon 2-3 times a day, children 1/2 teaspoon 2-3 times a day, drink as much water as possible (at least 1 full glass of water).
The duration of use is not limited and is determined individually taking into account the clinical situation.
Contraindications:increased sensitivity to plantain, intestinal obstruction or the threat of its occurrence, organic narrowing of the digestive tract, water-electrolyte balance disorders, severe diabetes.
Side effects: in the first days of treatment, some increase in flatulence and a feeling of intestinal fullness are possible.
Special instructions: in patients with diabetes mellitus, it is sometimes necessary to reduce the dose of insulin during the use of the drug. The drug can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Interactions: with simultaneous use with the drug, absorption of other drugs in the digestive tract may be disturbed (iron preparations, lithium), the interval between their reception should be at least 30–60 minutes. It should not be prescribed simultaneously with antidiarrheal agents that inhibit intestinal motility, as this may lead to the development of intestinal obstruction.
Overdose: abdominal pain, flatulence and feelings of intestinal fullness. In this case, intake of a large amount of liquid is indicated.

- excess weight and obesity (in combination with other drugs),
- intoxication, (including alcohol),
- high cholesterol,
- intestinal dysfunction,
- hemorrhoids (to avoid painful defecation).
