MUSCLE-MOTOR DISEASES FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF AYURVEDA
There are three main types of musculoskeletal diseases described in Ayurveda, which are characterized by joint pain and swelling:
Rheumatoid arthritis (amavata).
Osteoarthrosis (sandhivata).
Gouty arthritis (vatarakta).
In Ayurveda, it is considered that gout appears in the blood. The disease manifests itself with functionally excited (distorted) vata (increased air energy) and is formed in the blood and bones of the joints. The disease is characterized by acute pain (worse at night) and joint inflammation. As a rule, it begins with the feet or fingers, and then gradually spreads to other joints of the body. The affected joints are warmer than the body, swollen, there is a burning sensation, the skin is shiny, the veins are dilated.
PRINCIPLES OF RATIONAL QUESTIONS IN THE DISEASE OF THE MUSCLE-MOTOR APPARATUS:
Limit the intake of salt and sugar. They have a detrimental effect on the segments of the locomotor apparatus, so their use should be limited to the maximum and sugar should be replaced with honey or fructose, and salt with dried sea cabbage. Honey and fructose are much sweeter than sugar, but in small quantities they do not have a negative effect on health. The daily salt requirement of people with diseases of the musculoskeletal system is 5-7 g, in some cases a salt-free diet is recommended (short courses of 14-21 days). Avoid preservatives. It is better not to use canned products. It is possible to preserve useful vegetables and fruits with the help of deep freezing in the refrigerator. Remove from the diet products that harm the joints. Fatty sausages, smoked meats, sausage cheese, strong meat and fish broths should not be used. Preference should be given to dairy and vegetable soups, low-fat varieties of meat and fish, vegetables, legumes, cereals, nuts. Do not consume caffeine. It is expedient to replace tea and coffee with freshly squeezed juices, decoctions and infusions of herbs, milk and fermented milk drinks. Cook as much as you can eat at one time. Food should be prepared for one serving, because it loses its nutritional value when stored. Adhere to the drinking regime. It is advisable to drink at least 2 liters of water per day. It is necessary to drink 1-2 hours before or after a meal, since the excess intake of liquid dilutes the digestive juices, so the food is poorly and long digested in the intestines, burdening all the body's systems. Do not mix different products in one meal. Proponents of separate nutrition have successfully proven that the combination of some products (meat and bread, meat and potatoes, sugar and flour, etc.) has a bad effect on the body. It is not desirable to eat desserts after the main meal - fruits and sweets are eaten as the main course. Experiment with your mind. You can experiment in this matter, but it is better to do it under the guidance of a doctor. Separate nutrition is suitable for one, vegetarianism for the second, and raw food for the third. We are all different, so don't blindly follow systems or standards. It is better to try and choose for yourself elements from different schools of nutrition that most fully meet the needs of the body and mental preferences.
There is no need to go to extremes in the matter. This especially applies to people over 40 years old. Use diets carefully. Unlike nutrition systems, diets are temporary and are usually canceled when the condition normalizes. For example, it is impossible to constantly adhere to a salt-free diet, because such a diet will cause a deficiency of useful minerals in the body. During the period of exacerbation of the disease, such behavior is justified, but at other times, a person can eat what he is used to (of course, in moderation). For example, if there is an exacerbation of gout, it is desirable to exclude salt, sorrel, meat, offal, meat broths, etc., because these products can provoke pain. During the remission period, patients can eat such food, but in small quantities. Use products that promote the restoration of cartilage, joint tissue and bones. For example, patients with degenerative-dystrophic joint diseases are recommended to eat jelly and products containing chitin (crayfish, shrimp, etc.) more often.
Foods recommended for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, which must be included in the diet:
fruits, vegetables, especially orange or yellow, with a high level of vitamin C and antioxidants (bell peppers, citrus fruits, raw potato juice, carrots, beets, cucumbers, onions, apples),
salads of fresh vegetables and berry fruits (cranberries, cranberry),
freshly squeezed juices (for example, apple juice or a mixture of carrot juice, celery juice, tomato and cabbage),
lactic acid products with a high content of beneficial bacteria and calcium,
fish oil, cod liver oil (contain omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce the sensitivity of joints),
some types of fish with unsaturated fatty acids in limited quantities (trout, mackerel, salmon),
buckwheat porridge and lentils (contain vegetable protein),
diet meat (chicken, rabbit, turkey),
boiled chicken eggs.
Products not recommended for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, which should be limited or excluded from the diet:
sorrel,
legumes products,
spinach,
grilled meat,
sausage products,
smoked products,
offal,
broths,
alcohol,
salt and sugar,
products containing refractory fats and easily digestible carbohydrates,
condiments and spices (pepper, mustard, horseradish),
culinary, beef, pork and lamb fats, canned goods, smoked meats, marinades, pickles, spicy snacks, pastry dough, strong coffee and tea, ice cream.

Rheumatoid arthritis Rheumatoid arthritis (amavata) is described in Ayurveda as a constitutional disorder with clinical manifestations - swelling,
pain and stiffness in the ankle, knee, hip joints, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
The incidence of rheumatoid arthritis ranges from 0.3 to 1.5% in the majority of the world's population. Among patients with rheumatoid arthritis, there are two to three more women than men. The degree of severity of rheumatoid arthritis can vary from mild oligoarticular disease to short-term local damage to polyarthritis and functional impairment. In Ayurveda, it is believed that the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis is formed from agu (metabolic materials of toxic waste) in the intestine, which is caused by poor digestion. The main causative factors in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (amavata) are weak digestion and a sedentary lifestyle, which leads to the accumulation of amines. Prevention of rheumatoid arthritis includes herbal formulas in the diet, which improve digestion and cleanse the intestines, and an active lifestyle. Eat easily digestible food. Regular exercise is very important. Body massage can also be part of the treatment. Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis (sandhivata) is, first of all, a disease of distorted vata (increased air energy), which is formed in the bones and bone marrow. The disease is characterized by acute pain, joint stiffness, joint dysfunction, loss of muscle strength, and insomnia. This disorder resembles rheumatoid arthritis (amavata), but is not associated with the formation of ama in the intestine. Osteoarthritis (sandhivata) begins with pain in one joint, but subsequently spreads to other joints. Most often, osteoarthritis occurs in the fingers (in particular, the big toe), hips, knees, two lumbar and cervical spines. Since osteoarthritis is usually accompanied by muscle atrophy, treatment includes an adequate training program. Yoga also helps. Osteoarthritis patients must rest - it should become a part of their daily life.
