Krishna (Sanskrit, ka IAST) is one of the forms of God in Hinduism, the eighth avatar of Vishnu, often described as one of the most popular Hindu gods. In the monotheistic tradition of Krishnaism, it is regarded as the supreme and original form of God.
Krishna is the most famous avatar (divine incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, born on July 20, 3228 BC. In 3138 BC before the very beginning of the 18-day battle on Kurukshetra (67 days before the winter solstice, i.e. approximately October 15), Krishna, in a dialogue with Arjuna, taught the world a great teaching called the Bhagavad-gita ("Lord's Song"), contained in the 6th book (Bhishma-parva) of the Mahabharata and consisting of 700 shlokas (verses).
