The presence of licorice glycoside causes a laxative, choleretic and antispasmodic effect. Beta-sitosterols prevent the development of adenomas of the prostate gland and increase urination. The high content of glycyram causes an immunomodulating and anti-inflammatory effect. Ayurveda uses licorice root as a "key plant" in many phytorecipes.
