Izvestnoe slabitelnoe means. When taken inside, it is split by lipase in the small intestine, resulting in the formation of ricinoleic acid, which causes irritation of the intestinal receptors (over its entire length) and a reflex increase in peristalsis.
Castor oil is the basis of a number of ointments and balms (including Vishnevsky ointment and Shadbindu oil).
Castor oil is used as a means of strengthening hair.
Castor oil (Oleum ricini) is obtained from the seeds of a plant of the milkweed family - castor oil (Ricinus Communis L.). This is a powerful, beautiful plant with carved leaves ranging in color from green to purple and fruit boxes beautifully arranged in their shade. Most likely, castor oil came to us from Northeast Africa. There it looks like an impressive tree and lives up to 10 years. In the middle zone of Russia, it is an annual shrub, which, however, grows quickly and in a good season can jump over 2 meters. The whole plant is poisonous, especially the beautiful, patterned seeds. They contain toxins and allergens, in particular, ricin and ricinine.
It is from these deadly fruits that not only absolutely harmless, but also useful in all respects oil is obtained. It is precisely for the sake of "liquid gold" that castor, despite the labor-intensiveness of this culture, is widely cultivated in all countries of the tropical and subtropical zones - from China to South America. Unbelievable, but a fact: today, castor is not only the basis for cosmetics and medicines, but also a valuable raw material in the high-tech sector of the chemical industry. Not so long ago, on its basis, high-strength synthetic fiber and unique lubricants that maintain a given viscosity in the widest range of temperatures were obtained.
Based on this knowledge, naturopathic and ethnic medical systems (Ayurveda, Tibetan and others) still widely use castor oil today. Internally, it is prescribed:
- for problems of the gastrointestinal tract, the presence of inflammatory processes in the intestine, constipation, flatulence, flatulence,
- for stimulation of labor,
- for stimulation of lactation.
Contraindications for internal use
- pregnancy,
- poisoning with fat-soluble substances (benzene, phenol, male fern extract),
- intestinal obstruction,
- children under 1 year of age.
As a quality external means of castor is used even more widely in alternative medicine - in the form of compresses, lotions, rubbing and rubbing:
- for various pains - headaches, toothaches, earaches, muscle pains, sprains, etc. p. The oil has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, mild antispasmodic effects,
- for skin problems - acne, irritation, warts, papillomas, pigment spots. There is a well-known folk way of getting rid of warts: castor oil should be rubbed in for 10-20 minutes daily, 2 times a day, for 1-2 months. This same method is used for the so-called liver pigmentation,
- for colds accompanied by cough. The chest is rubbed with oil both independently and in combination with other means (turpentine, fir essential oil),
- for joint diseases — polyarthritis, arthrosis, etc. In this capacity, castor oil is widely used in Ayurveda,
- for diseases of the genitourinary sphere - kidneys, urethra and bladder - lotions and compresses with castor are used,
- for female diseases - inflammatory diseases of the female genital sphere, erosion, myoma of the uterus. Castor compress relieves painful menstruation, reduces swelling and pain of the mammary glands in premenstrual syndrome, mastopathy, promotes resorption of nodes,
- in hemorrhoids, anal fissures. Lotions and micro-enemas with castor oil can quickly eliminate the symptoms of the disease.
The only contraindication to the external use of castor oil is individual sensitivity.
Castor oil in cosmetology
This is the earliest area of application of castor oil by humans. It is known that the ancient tribes living in the territory of Ethiopia rubbed themselves with it to protect the skin and give it shine. According to Herodotus, the Egyptians anointed their body and hair with castor oil so that they would grow better. According to legend, the famous Cleopatra used castor to lubricate the whites of her eyes.
The use of castor oil for beauty has not lost its relevance even today. In modern cosmetology, it is used for skin, hair, eyebrows and eyelashes - both independently and in a mixture with other components - herbs, essential oils, fatty oils, etc.
Castor oil for skin
Castor oil is not suitable for all skin types. Fat and normal it will seem too heavy and thick. However, for thin, dry, withering and sensitive skin, there is no better remedy.
Castor oil nourishes the skin and, forming a protective layer, prevents the "leakage" of moisture from its deep layers. It perfectly copes with such problems as irritation, itching, peeling and tightening. If excessive dryness of the skin has led to the appearance of cracks, regular use of castor oil will get rid of this trouble. Castor oil perfectly supports the elasticity of the skin, preventing the formation of small wrinkles ("crow's feet", "pouch", etc.).
Unfortunately, it is not very convenient to use a thick, viscous oil instead of a cream, it is more suitable for a mask. Riciniol castor oil emulsion is more convenient to use and significantly more effective.
Popular face masks with castor oil
To lighten freckles
Evens and brightens the overall color of the face. It is made with your choice of apple, cucumber or kefir. Mix a tablespoon of grated apple (you can use cucumber, raw potato, kefir) with a teaspoon of castor oil. Apply the mixture to the face, after 15-20 minutes wash it off with warm water. If the skin is very dry, instead of kefir and fruit, it is better to take fatty cottage cheese or sour cream.
Cleansing and nourishing mask for withering skin
Mix a tablespoon of oatmeal in milk with a teaspoon of castor oil and a teaspoon of honey. Mix thoroughly and apply a thick layer to the skin of the face, neck and décolleté. Wash off with warm water after 15-20 minutes.
Nourishing mask for mature skin
Add one egg yolk, a tablespoon of milk and two teaspoons of castor oil to mashed potatoes. Mix thoroughly and apply a thick layer to the skin of the face, neck and décolleté. After 15-20 minutes, rinse with warm water.
Against wrinkles around the eyes
Mix equal parts of castor oil, olive oil, and wheat germ oil (you can use peach, almond, grape seed oil, etc.). Heat the mixture a little in a water bath and, having distributed it on the fingertips, apply it with light tapping movements along the massage lines around the eyes. Wipe the rest of the oil with a napkin.
Castor oil for hair
Along with burdock castor oil is the best tool for hair strengthening and growth. Its use improves the condition of both hair shafts and roots.
Castor oil nourishes hair shafts, enhances their color and shine, increases elasticity, and improves texture. Thanks to its unusual consistency and penetrating ability, the oil envelops the hair, preventing moisture loss and overdrying. At the same time, it weighs down and "glues" the scales, so rubbing a small amount into the split ends of the hair will gradually get rid of this problem.
But the main power of castor oil for hair is its unique ability to enhance their growth and prevent hair loss. This is due to the healing effect of the oil on the roots and scalp. Castor oil penetrates the dermis, intensively nourishes and strengthens its cells and hair follicles. Thanks to this, the hair, as they say, holds on tighter and grows better. At the same time, the condition of the skin improves. Dry dandruff disappears, and when using additives with an antibacterial effect, even the manifestations of seborrhea can be reduced.
For prevention and moderate hair loss, it is enough to rub a small amount of castor oil into the scalp a couple of times a week. If hair loss (including in men) has become a problem, regularly use a castor mask in combination with other components. These masks have a nuance: they are difficult to wash off, and the abuse of shampoo reduces the healing effect.
To solve this problem:
- take a small amount of oil,
- rub it thoroughly into the scalp,
- so that the mask is better absorbed, use a polyethylene cap and insulation,
- before after washing your head, remove the excess of the mask with a napkin or cotton cloth,
- in addition to shampoo, use egg yolk,
- use castor emulsion Riciniol.
